Wrapping Up 2017

I went from working out 5 days in a week two weeks ago to working out twice this week.  The cold weather hit and I went in to hibernation mode hard!  So aside from hitting up the gym yesterday and running this morning, I don’t have much to talk about this week.  That’s why I decided to recap my 2017 today.

My Goals for 2017

Last year at this time, I was new to Instagram and looking to set up my blog.  My 2017 goals were:

Become a RRCA Certified Running Coach

Run a sub-2 half and a 50 minute 10k

Run in three new states

Strength Train on a regular basis

Launch my blog

I was able to check a few things off!  I successfully became a coach, launched my blog, started a run coaching business, ran a sub 2 hour half and crossed one more State off the list.  My strength training came in waves and as it turns out, I only raced one 10k this year.  I didn’t attempt to run a 50 minute race.  Not too shabby.

I have to say that blogging is the best thing that every could have happened to me this year.  It has brought so many amazing people and new friends in to my life that I never would have come in contact with otherwise.  It gives me a creative outlet and has also given me some pretty cool opportunities.  I know that it’s only going to get better from here!

Racing Recap

I completed 30 races this year in four different States: PA, WV, OH, KY.  Kentucky was the State that we haven’t been to before this year for a race.  Of the 30 races, I completed my first 50k, 5 half marathons, two 10ks, 17 5ks, and a few other random distance races.  The 50k race wasn’t even on my radar at this time last year!  If you would like to read more about that journey, you can catch up here.  My only real PR this year was my half marathon time.  I don’t count the 5 miler, 1 miler and 50k times since it is the first time I raced those distances.

2018 Goals

I haven’t really sat down to get this all figured out yet but I can share a few insights with you.  I would like to run at least 8 half marathons to bring my total up to 30.  This should not be difficult since I already have 7 half marathons on my list.  I’ll cross at least one more State off the racing map.  Finally, I would like to get new 5k, 10k, and half marathon PR’s.  I don’t think I’ll do another marathon this year.  I’ve enjoyed my lower mileage year in 2017!

And with that, I’m going to be signing off for 2017.  This will be my last blog post so that I can enjoy some time with my family and refill my cup over the next few weeks.  In the mean time, you can keep up with me on Instagram.

Wow, that’s a whole lot of races! And it sounds like you pretty much crushed your goals. I added 4 states this year, but there was only one state that was new to me (and we loved it — UT). Unfortunately I don’t think we’ll be adding as many next year, but I would like to cross off at least another 2 (preferably 3!). But I really like to take my time & really visit, which is why I only do a few a year.

Hope 2018 is a great year for you!

It’s hard to add new states because of the travel and expenses. We’ve crossed off all the surrounding states so far.
Same! Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday!

I decided to do two wrap-ups…one for races and one as a more “in general” post (since I did have that small hiccup in there over the summer). One of those is “in the works,” and the other isn’t (yet). I didn’t realize you had done so many 5K’s! I was able to add a few new states to “run” in (PA, OH, and NV), but only one actually had a race. There were several new cities, too. Good luck in 2018!

That’s a really good idea to do 2 wrap-ups! You’ve come so far since your surgery!
I rack up the 5k’s through my pacing gigs.
