Why I Love Medals

Why I love race medals

Race medals. Race bling.  Swag.

Some people can do without while others live for it. I happen to be one of those people that chase race medals. If you haven’t read my post about how I got started, I basically decided to run my second race just to earn a medal.

I love the medals because they tell a story. They remind me about my training journey or the obstacles that I had to overcome to get to the race. They remind me of crazy commitments and challenges that I had to push myself to complete. They remind me of trips, experiences, and travel with family and friends. They help me count how many States I have completed races in. They remind me of the goals I have set and the courage to achieve them. Sometimes, I sign up for a race just because of the medal design.

Funny thing is, I have every single one of the medals I have earned. I wasn’t sure what to do with them so I decided to dedicate a wall to them in our office. Complete with pictures and race photos. If there is ever a day that I am lacking motivation, I can come to the office and remember why I push through the tough workouts.

What side of the line do you fall on? Is there anything that you collect from your races?

Medals are definitely my favorite part of a race (minus the atmosphere, running with friends, etc!)! It’s fun to collect something that has so much personal value, and I love the way you displayed yours! I’m on the hunt for something to hang mine on. Right now they are hanging out in a drawer!

Thanks, Ann! Check out York Sign Shop on Etsy if you want a pre-made medal rack. I bought my first one from them. They have great customer service!
